MANAMA — Special Envoy to Bahrain, Presidential Assistant for Foreign Affairs (PAFA), and Chief of Presidential Protocol Robert E.A. Borje, alongside Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Migrant Workers’ Affairs Sarah Lou Y. Arriola, and Philippine Ambassador to the Kingdom of Bahrain Alfonso Ver met with representatives of the Filipino community in Bahrain at Kalinga at Malasakit ng Pangulo Para sa OFWs, a physical and virtual town hall meeting organized by the Philippine Embassy in Manama on December 30, 2020.

The program included testimonies from Filipinos that have been treated for COVID-19 in Bahrain and Filipno frontline service workers that chose to take part in vaccine trials in the country, as well as an open forum which the Filipino community utilized to ask questions about PH government support programs for OFWs.

PAFA Borje presented President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s holiday message and well wishes for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Bahrain.

PAFA Borje reaffirmed the Duterte Administration’s commitment to kalinga and malasakit for Filipinos overseas, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.

He noted that the bill creating the Department of Overseas Filipino Workers, which the President certified as urgent last December 15, will help ensure continued and intensified support for OFWs once it becomes law.

The town hall meeting is a part of the string of activities included in the Special Envoy’s official visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain on 28-31 December 2020.
