CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – What has happened to the joint power supply agreement (PSA) application between San Fernando Electric Light and Power Company, Inc. and Aboitiz Power, which remains pending approval by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC)?

Thus, the Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry asked ERC chairperson and CEO Monalisa C. Dimalanta in a letter dated Aug. 19 signed by PamCham former president and current director for infra development Rene Romero and noted by president Teresa David-Carlos.

The letter said Sfelapco had advised that its separate PSAs with Aboitiz Power and Masinloc Power Partners Co. Ltd. (MPPCL) were submitted simultaneously, but only that with MPPCL was approved and implemented in July 2024.

Sfelapco, it said, also noted specifically that the PSA with MPPCL covers only 33% of its power supply, leaving 67% to be sourced from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM), which leads to “significant volatility in power rates.”

“This situation is creating uncertainty and financial strain within the business community in San Fernando, making it challenging for businesses to plan and operate effectively,” PamCham told the ERC, underscoring that “a stable power supply is vital for maintaining a conducive business environment in our city.”

This, even as it requested the power industry regulator for an “edification for the delay” in the approval of the PSA between Sfelapco and Aboitiz Power. Punto News Team
