CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The Bureau of Customs-Port of Subic seized smuggled and suspected fake cigarettes worth some P48 million on Friday.
Port of Subic district collector Maritess Martin said a pre-lodgment control order was issued on the shipment suspected to have originated from Cambodia and consigned to a certain Shemala International Commercial Equipment Wholesaling to subject it to 100 percent physical examination.
The examination revealed 995 master cases of cigarettes branded Mighty, Fortune, Two Moon, and Marlboro estimated at P48 million.
Martin immediately issued a warrant of seizure and detention against the shipment for the possible violation of the National Tobacco Administration Memorandum Circular No. 3 Series of 2004 and NTA Board resolution No. 079-2005 and Sec. 155 of RA 8293 (Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines) and Sec. 1400, in relation to Section 1113 (f) of RA 10863 (Customs Modernization and Tariff Act).
In a statement, Martin warned would-be smugglers attempting unscrupulous activities in the port shall face the full force of the law.
The Port of Subic remains steadfast in its continuing campaign against smuggling as part of the directive of BOC Ccmmissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero to secure the nation’s borders, Martin said. BOC-Subic PR
