LIMAY, Bataan: The Philippine Coast Guard reported Thursday that 806,254 liters of oily waste have been siphoned off from the sunken MTKR Terranova here from August 19 to August 28, 2024.

PCG said that Harbor Star, the contracted salvor, reported that the rate of oily waste flow during the latest siphoning operation on August 28 was 24,614 liters per hour.

Salvor’s divers also inspected pumps and hoses for any signs of leakage and reported that no leaks were observed during the underwater survey.

Coast Guard personnel collected oil samples for analysis. BRP Sindangan (MRRV-4407) monitored the siphoning operation and utilized water cannon to agitate minimal oil sheen at ground zero.

MT Terranova loaded with 1.4 million liters of industrial oil sank off Manila Bay in Limay last July 25 at the height of typhoon Carina and the onslaught of habagat.

MTKR Jason Bradley that capsized off Barangay Cabcaben in Mariveles, Bataan also in July is undergoing re-sealing and patching operations of its manhole and air vent by its contracted salvor, FES Challenger.

The Oil Spill Response Team (OSRT) patrolled the coastline near the sunken vessel loaded with 5,500 liters of diesel oil, PCG said.

The third vessel, MV Mirola 1, was already towed to a shipyard in Mariveles from Barangay Biaan where it ran aground also last July.

It is now moored at Diving Industry Shipyard in Mariveles to undergo retrofitting and repair.
