CABANATUAN CITY (PIA) — The Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST) formalized its partnership with Meralco Power Academy (MPA) and MGEN Renewable Energy, Inc. to strengthen energy sector training and industry-academic collaboration.
This partnership builds on the engagement that began in 2016 through the Power Camp Program and expands cooperation in hands-on learning, research collaboration, curriculum development and integration, and structured internship deployment.
Under the signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), MPA will manage program implementation and student deployment aligned with departmental requirements of MGEN Renewables, while
NEUST will align academic outcomes with industry-required competencies, assign faculty supervisors, and conduct pre-internship orientations on ethics, workplace behavior, and data privacy.
MGEN Renewables will provide internship roles aligned with learning objectives, assign mentors in coordination with MPA, and collaborate with the university in promoting career opportunities through job fairs and career talks.
NEUST Vice President for Academic Affairs Feliciana Jacoba said the initiative strengthens the university’s efforts to prepare future engineers with industry-relevant competencies and practical experience.
For her part, NEUST President Rhodora Jugo said strategic partnerships remain central to the university’s pursuit of academic excellence and industry relevance.
“Our commitment to academic excellence is complemented by deliberate partnerships to ensure that what we teach is aligned with what the world demands,” Jugo said.
Meanwhile, MGEN Renewable Energy, Inc. President and Chief Executive Officer Dennis Jordan described the signing as a bridge between education and industry in advancing renewable energy development.
“This signing ceremony links classroom learning with real-world possibilities and builds a future powered not only by clean energy but by capable, confident, and empowered young people,” Jordan said.
Adding inspiration to the event was NEUST alumnus Redel Domingo, now Senior Vice President and Head of MPower, who shared how the university provided him with the foundational knowledge and principles that guided his professional success.
As the first MOU of its kind in the region for Meralco, both parties expressed optimism for sustained collaboration anchored on human capital empowerment and sustainable development.
At least 20 NEUST graduates are currently employed within the Meralco group, reflecting the university’s continuing efforts to produce industry-ready professionals and strengthen sustainable industry-academe collaboration in Nueva Ecija.(CLJD/MCAL, PIA Region 3-Nueva Ecija).
