NPC prov’l bets cruise to victory

THE dominance of the Nationalist Peoples Coalition [NPC] in Tarlac province was on full display in the recently concluded May 9 election as unopposed Governor Susan Yap, her running mate Vice Governor Carlito “Casada” David and the nine out of 10 members of the provincial board cruised their way to victory.

Proclaimed on May 10, Yap garnered a total of 600,355 votes while David won via landslide when he got a total vote of 443,335 as against the 170,253 votes of his lone opposition, Promdi’s former Vice Governor Marcelino “Bogs” Aganon Jr.

David’s voter preference percentage is 72.25% while Aganon obtained 27.74% of the total vote cast for the second highest position in the province.

In her message after her proclamation, Yap thanked all those who supported the NPC team.

“Na proclaim na po tayo…taos puso ko pong nag papasalamat,sa lahat ng ating mga kababayan, nag bigay po ng supporta, at muli nag-tiwala sa inyong lingkod, asahan po nyo ang isa pa, mas mahusay at mas pag bubutihan pa po natin ang ating administration sa susunod na three years,” she said.

“Yung dalawang beses po, two times po tayong na naging unopposed as governor, I’m speechless, I said nga, I do not take all the credit for that, I would like to thank everyone, lahat ng nag susuporta, mga kasama ko sa capitolyo, ang sangguniag, ang mga kasama ko sa barangay, barangay officials, mga kasama kong mayors na talagang there are all part of this victory yung pag kawalang kalaban po ng two terms, maraming marami salamat sa inyong lahat,” Yap added.

David likewise thanked his supporters and vowed to deliver the rightful services to Tarlaqueños.

“Sa ating mga kababayan, maraming salamat po sa inyong tiwala na ibinigay sa aking pangatlo at huling termino. Makaka-asa po kayo, tulad ng lagi po nating sinasabi, susuklian po naming ng tamang serbisyo at serbisyong mayap. Maraming salamat po ulit,” David said.

In the Sangguniang Panlalawigan race, first legislative district NPC re-electionist Board Members Romeo Evangelista Jr., Joy Gilbert Lamorena and Jessie Aquino won over their two other rivals for the posts.

Evangelista garnered 158,353 votes, Lamorena-133,493 votes and 125,000 votes for Aquino. KBL’s Enzo Concepcion was a distant fourth with 36,971 votes and Tony Saplaco got 24,930.

Independent candidate and incumbent Board Member Dennis Norman Go topped the second district race with 146,408 votes followed by NPC candidates—incumbent city Councilor Christopher “Topey” delos Reyes with 140,787 votes, Board Member Danilo “Dan” Asiaten with 139,245 votes and former Board Member Harmes Sembrano with 133,981 votes.

Incumbent Board Member Antonio “Tonyboy” Cervantes of the NPC lost his bid for a board seat re-election as he placed fifth with 128,256 votes.

Others who failed their bids for an SP in the second district seat were city Councilor Diosdado “Jojo” Briones [80,717], former Board Member Tyrone Aganon [24,793], Marilou Malvar [22,784] and Josefino Doloricon [4,837].

In the third district, the three NPC candidates won their bids. Former Board Member Henry “Tootsie” Cruz placed first when he obtained 130,694 votes while incumbent Board Members Vernon Villanueva and Danilo David garnered 128,372 and 93,676 votes respectively.

Daisy Francia [42,086], Alvin Mallari [41,821], Chris Perez [37,242] and Benz Pineda [31,494] were the other candidates.

Meanwhile, the three congressional candidates of the NPC, Jaime Cojuangco, Christian Tell Yap and Noel “Kap Bong” Rivera likewise won via landslides [see separate story]. –Arvin F. M. Cabalu
