BALANGA CITY — A round Wednesday of the city public market here showed that
there were no white onions for sale in any of the vegetable stalls of the biggest
public market in Bataan.
Stall owners Chona Suba and Brigida Diego of the Balanga City Public Market said
they wanted to sell white onions because many of their customers are asking for
it but there are presently no available ones.
Suba said there used to be some supplies of white onions from Nueva Ecija that
cost P2,500 per red bag or for sale at P350 per kilo but the stock had run out.
She said that white onions used to be cheaper than red onions but with the lack
of supplies, the price of white onions is now higher than the red ones that sell at
P130 – P140 per kilogram.
Diego said it has been about three weeks that there were no white onions from
their source in Urdaneta, Pangasinan.
“Kahit na mahal kung may mabibili ay bibili ang aking anak dahil marami kaming
suki na ito ang hinahanap kaso nga lang ay walang mabili. Sa Urdaneta namimili
ang anak ko ng sibuyas na puti pero wala nang mabili doon,” she said.
“Sa Cabanatuan naman kung minsan meron nabibili kaso lang ay masyadong
mahal na ang iba dito ay ibinebenta ng P300 – P400 ang kilo kaya hindi na
namimili ang aking anak at ipinipilit ko na lang sa aking mga suki na pulang sibuyas
na lang ang gamitin dahil mas mababa ang pula na nasa P120 kada kilo lang,”
Diego said.
