ANGELES CITY – “Not in my wildest dreams had I ever entertain thoughts that I would quit the race.”
Thus said mayoralty aspirant Balibago village chief Rodelio “Tony” Mamac, dousing talks that he would quit the race for the top elective post here.
Mamac of the Liberal Party (LP) said “these are mere political propaganda aimed at covering the truth.”
“No retreat, no surrender for me,” he added.
Mamac said his political opponents had spread the “black propaganda” because he and his group had won the support and sympathy of many people.
“Inaalis lang nila (kalaban) ang gana ng ating mga taga supporta kaya nila sinasabi na ‘di na ako lalaban,” said Mamac in a phone interview.
“Even if they will spend all their money they will not make me quit,” he added.
Mamac said he should not have joined the race had mayoralty bet Sec. Edgardo “Ed Pamintuan” had told him the truth about his political plans then.
“Pamintuan told me several times he will not run for mayor before. I decided to fight because I will not let the incumbent mayor win anew,” said Mamac, referring to Mayor Francis ‘Blueboy” Nepomuceno.
Claro M. Recto Barangay Chair Val Lagman, for his part, said “it’s indeed black propaganda.”
“Dahil kami lang sa TMAC team (Tony Mamac group) ang nagsasabi ng tunay na kalagayan ng ating lungsod kaya sila nasasaktan,” said Lagman, who is running for city councilor under the party of Mamac.
Lagman said the “fight goes on because the city needs a leader who will introduce real change and avoid graft and corruption.”
“Corruption is the root of poverty,” he added.
