NE village chief shot dead

SANTA ROSA, Nueva Ecija – A 52-year-old village chief was gunned down by motorcycle-riding suspects in Barangay Inspector here at about 7:19 p.m. Wednesday.

Police identified the victim as Emiliano Muncal, married, chair of the said village.

He was the second village head to have been killed in Nueva Ecija since the filing of certificates of candidacy in October. The first being barangay chair Zoilo de Belen of Lambakin in Jaen town on Nov. 5.

Initial investigation showed Muncal came from the barangay hall and was about to park his motorcycle in front of his residence when successively shot with a still unspecified gun by the killers, police said.

“After the incident, the suspects fled on board their motorcycle heading towards east direction of Sta. Rosa-Tarlac Road (provincial road),” police reported.

Muncal who reportedly sustained multiple gunshot wounds in different parts of his body died while being treated in a hospital in Cabanatuan City, it was also reported.

Mayor Josefino Angeles immediately expressed sympathy to the family of Muncal in a post on the local government’s social media page.
