CABANATUAN CITY – A Nueva Ecija legislator expressed support to House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez amid the controversy hounding his leadership following the slashing of the Office of the Vice President’s confidential and intelligence funds.
“I support the leadership of House Speaker Martin Romualdez and the efforts of the HOR (House of Representatives) in upholding its institutional integrity, dignity and ensuring that all are treated respectfully,” said 3rd District Rep. Ria Vergara in a social media post.
Vergara underscored that public officers “are servants and agents of the people, to execute laws which uplift the lives of all Filipinos.”
“We are held to a higher standard of transparency, accountability and ethical behavior,” she added.
Vergara noted that the House of Representatives is greatly committed to ensuring that the use of confidential and intelligence funds of government agencies is in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s priority in safeguarding national security and sovereignty.
During the budget deliberations, she added, the suggestions of government agencies are listened to and considered.
“It does not make itself obligated to conform to them. Thus, the House decided to realign the CIF to government agencies primarily tasked to ensure our country’s national security and sovereignty,” the legislator stressed.
Equally, each and every member, regardless of party affiliation, has been working hard to make sure we serve our constituents effectively, responsibly and with sincerity, Vergara said.
