Anita Nelmida of Tarlac City said her son, Inspector Christian Lee Nelmida, 24, was shot in his chest at close range allegedly by SPO1 Arnold Lizada inside Camp Tirador in Janiuay, Iloilo over a week ago. Other policemen were reported to have witnessed the shooting.
While a murder case had already been fi led against Lizada, he has yet to be arrested. Mrs. Nelmida recalled that during her son’s wake in Iloilo before the remains were brought to Tarlac, Region 6 police director Chief Supt.
Bernardo Diaz had promised her to work for the arrest of Lizada before the remains of her son were buried. Interment was held last Sunday in Tarlac City, but she cited reports that the suspect had yet to be arrested.
According to reports, Lizada had gone into hiding and has been under the protection of a retired ranking police officer in Lambunao town, also in Iloilo.
Nelmida belonged to the Philippine National Police Academy batch 2013. At the time of his death, he was assigned at the Iloilo Provincial Police Office as head of the Camp Tirador-based 2nd Maneuver Platoon of the Iloilo Provincial Public Safety Battalion.
Mrs. Nelmida cited reports that the altercation between her son and Lizada was grounded on an illegal drugs case that her son had allegedly refused to drop.
