Strong Q1 offsets softer Q2 as motorcycles remain an essential mobility solution for Filipinos
The Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association (MDPPA) reported total motorcycle sales of 939,528 units from January to June 2026, representing a 3.58 percent increase over the 907,054 units sold during the same period last year.
Despite a more challenging market environment following an exceptionally strong first half in 2025, the industry maintained positive momentum, reflecting the continued importance of motorcycles as an essential mobility solution for Filipinos.
The industry’s first half performance was anchored by a strong start to the year. Sales in the first quarter reached 496,868 units, an 11.6 percent increase over the same period in 2025. While the second quarter recorded 442,660 units, or 4.2 percent lower than the 462,007 units posted during the same period last year, the gains achieved in the opening quarter helped keep overall first half sales firmly in positive territory.
Automatic motorcycles continued to dominate the market with 655,004 units sold during the first six months of the year, reinforcing their position as the preferred choice among Filipino riders because of their convenience, fuel efficiency, and practicality for everyday commuting. Business motorcycles followed with 148,989 units, highlighting the continued importance of motorcycles in supporting delivery services, small businesses, and other livelihood opportunities. Mopeds accounted for 107,632 units, while the street category reached 24,346 units. Big bikes contributed 2,994 units, while other motorcycle categories accounted for 563 units.
The first half results highlight the industry’s ability to sustain growth despite a more challenging comparison base and evolving market conditions. While growth in the first half of 2026 was slower than the growth recorded during the same period in 2025, the industry continued to expand, demonstrating the enduring confidence of Filipino consumers in motorcycles as a practical, reliable, and cost-efficient mode of transportation. The sustained year on year growth also highlights the sector’s solid fundamentals and its ability to respond to changing economic conditions while continuing to meet the country’s mobility needs.
“The first half of the year reflects the resilience of the Philippine motorcycle industry,” said MDPPA President Erwin D. Estrada. “While market conditions have become more challenging compared with last year’s exceptionally strong performance, motorcycles continue to meet the everyday mobility needs of Filipinos. The industry’s continued growth demonstrates that consumers recognize the value motorcycles provide through affordability, fuel efficiency, and dependable transportation for work, business, and daily life.”
Looking ahead, Industry analysts remain optimistic that the Philippine motorcycle market will continue to demonstrate steady long-term growth, supported by sustained demand for affordable mobility solutions, and the sector’s ability to adapt to changing economic conditions.
