CLARK FREEPORT – Clark International Airport Corp. (CIAC) President and CEO Victor Jose Luciano on Friday denied coddling the major contractor of airport’s Terminal 1 extension project, saying he was not in favor of extending the time given to them to complete the project.

In an interview just before President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo arrived here, Luciano said he was against the request of the Laguna-based AG Araja to extend the deadline for the completion of the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA) Terminal I extension project. The project was reportedly 60 percent complete as of April 30, the deadline set for the project’s completion.

“I have not approved the request to extend it. I am not in favor. Their request is still pending,” said Luciano, in an interview at the Mequeni Restaurant of the Holiday Inn.

“That’s not true,” stressed Luciano when asked by the allegations of a sub-contractor of the project that he had coddled the major contractor and was in favor giving them an extension.

Luciano said they are preparing to take over the multi-million project to rush its completion.

Asked by the delays of payment to sub-contractors, Luciano said “that had been solved.” He added that they had vowed to update their payments to at least four sub-contractors of the project.
