ANGELES CITY – Sen. Manuel “Lito” Lapid yesterday filed by his lonesome his certificate of candidacy (COC) for reelection before the Commission of Elections (Comelec) office in Manila, dousing off his plan to seek his old post as Pampanga governor.

In a statement issued to Punto, Lapid said he decided to seek reelection because he wants to finish the maximum two-term limit for senators. He added that he wants to continue his practice of finishing the allowed limit for elective post just like when he finished three straight terms as Pampanga governor.

Lapid disclosed that he filed his COC alone at about 10:00 a.m.

He joined the senatorial slate of the ruling Lakas-CMD-Kampi party with former Defense Sec. Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro as standard-bearer.

It could be recalled that Lapid expressed his intention to run for governor in a press conference in the City of San Fernando last October 7. He also introduced Lea Dizon, daughter of a prominent family engaged in real estate business, as his vice gubernatorial candidate.

Broadcast journalist Deng Pangilinan, media consultant of Lapid and Dizon, disclosed that negotiations are underway to convince Dizon to run for provincial board member in the second district.

Lapid and Dizon are both from Porac town, which is part of the second district.
