ANGELES CITY — “Tuwang-tuwa ako. Hindi ko sukat-akalain na magkakaroon pa ako ng ganito kahit sa pangarap. Pwede na akong magdagdag ng paninda.”
Thus said a grateful and teary-eyed Lolo Lito, aka “Lolo Pops”.
Known for selling candies such as lollipops, pastillas, and polvoron from a box made of styrofoam, Lolo Lito has been selling candies along the streets of Angeles City usually beside the universities for over 15 years.
At 71, Lolo Lito’s love for selling along with his warm smile and friendly personality never ceases.
That being the case, online food delivery service Mangan.ph together with Barangay Salapungan decided to put up a mini outpost for Lolo Lito situated beneath the overpass bridge in front of Jollibee AUF to give him a safe space to sell.
The simple ribbon cutting and unveiling of the outpost was led by Mangan.ph co-founder Louie Alcantara and assistant general manager Vince Briones, Kagawad Bot Bangit, Lolo Lito and his family.
According to Briones, the pandemic has affected Lolo Lito’s income as students stay home due to distance and online learning.
“Kasi (itong) pandemic walang student para kumita si Lolo, nakikita na kasi namin yun noon pa sa area. We hope Lolo Lito will get more sales para makatulong ngayong pandemic sa kanya,” said Briones.
As part of the initiative, Lolo Lito is now a permanent merchant of Mangan.ph extending the delivery radius to reach a wider market. All sales and proceeds will go directly to Lolo Lito. In order to help the riders as well, delivery fee will also apply.
“Walang add-ons kay Mangan.ph, SRP ni Lolo ang gamit namin, walang commission fee. 100% ang tulong natin para kay Lolo Lito,” shared Briones.
Spreading sweetness a little bit safer now, Lolo Lito’s mini outpost is open everyday. For online orders, visit Lolo Pops (Lolo Lito’s Candies) via mobile app or through www.mangan.ph
