PILAR, Bataan – Police on Sunday held a unity walk and signing of peace covenant for municipal candidates here aimed to ensure secured, fair and honest elections.

“Isinagawa itong peace covenant para sa pangangako ng mga kndidato sa isang mapayapang eleksiyon,” said Senior Insp. Dennis Orbista, Pilar police chief.

He said they conducted the activity in coordination with the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting, Commission on Elections, parish priest of Pilar and some pastors of other religious organizations.

Pilar tourism council chair Alice Pizarro, mayoral candidate under the National Unity Party, thanked the organizers of the unity walk and peace covenant. “Ito’y para sa fair and honest elections. Sana, maging sports lang ang mga kandidato,” she said.

“Umaasa kami na ipagpapatuloy ang kaayusan at magiging malinis at matiwasay ang eleksiyon,” said Pilar Vice-Mayor Eduardo Santos, Jr. who is running for mayor under the Liberal Party-Nationalist People’s Coalition.

Pizarro is wife of Pilar Mayor Carlos Pizarro, Jr.while Santos is son of former Pilar Mayor Beth Santos.

Pizarro and her full slate walked from the Pilar municipal hall to the Pilar church. Santos and his group failed to join the unity walk but attended the Mass and the signing of the peace covenant.

Rivalry seemed to be temporarily shelved when the candidates from opposing parties participated in the offertory.

The officiating priest reminded the candidates to be guided by the love of God and to bring peace and abundance in the community.

Edna Orejola, Pilar election officer, assured all candidates of fair treatment from her office.
