CLARK FREEPORT — Nestled within this vibrant freeport is a hidden culinary gem which promises an authentic Japanese dining experience. Kerubin Izakaya, a quaint yet captivating restaurant that will surely capture the hearts and tease the taste buds of both locals and tourists, opened its doors on Feb. 10, 2024. The story behind this unique restaurant is as compelling as the flavors it serves, making it a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a slice of Japan in Clark.
Kerubin Izakaya is rooted in a serendipitous encounter between its head chef, Kelvin Mark Patawaran, 31, a HRM graduate from the Angeles University Foundation, and his Japanese business partner Yoshimasa “Yosh” Ogishima, 39, whose multi-faceted business interests include a family-owned wasabi farm in Shizuoka Prefecture, real estate business in Tokyo, and an ippon sushi and koyukan judo club in Hong Kong.
Harboring the dream of opening a restaurant of his own since early youth, Kelvin’s journey took an unexpected turn during a casual drinking session, where his Japanese business partner, impressed by Kelvin’s culinary skills, proposed the idea of opening a Japanese izakaya.
“It’s funny to share that it all began during a casual moment. Then the idea struck: why don’t we open a restaurant?” Kelvin recalls, emphasizing the fortuitous start of their venture.

Among the top picks that first-time visitors must try are the ramen, yakitori, and salmon sushi bowls.
The ramen, known for its rich, flavorful broth and perfectly cooked noodles, has quickly become a favorite.
