CLARK FREEPORT – “Quality management system is in place within our corporation…”

“…that we are able to demonstrate our ability to consistently provide services within the scope of applicable statutory and regulatory requirements…”

“…and that we are able to enhance customer satisfaction through the effective application of quality management system.”

This was the message of Clark International Airport Corp. President and Chief Executive Officer Victor Jose I. Luciano during the awarding of the International Organization Standardization (ISO) 9001:2008 to CIAC officials at the Mimosa Convention hall on Wednesday.

He said that CIAC is already one of the few organizations in the world that has the “appropriate people, equipment, skills and competencies in delivering quality services to its customers based on established international standards.”

Luciano, together with other CIAC officials, received the award from TÜV Rheinland Philippines Inc. executives headed by Global Business Field Manager for TÜVdotcom services Stefan Kischka and Chief Operating Officer Tristan Arwen G. Loveres.

“Ahead of us lies a greater responsibility… that is, to ensure that we faithfully comply with the standards prescribed by ISO 9001:2008 throughout the years,” he said.

Citing the tedious documentation of the airport’s passenger facilitation process, Luciano said that they discovered some repetition and variation in their operation but were immediately corrected.

“As variations are eliminated, efficiency improves, quality services are better delivered.”

He also noted that corrective and preventive measures were put in place to give long term “solutions and deterrence to actual and potential quality problems.”

Kischka, also the vice director of TÜV Rheinland Japan, said that with the awarding of the ISO 9001 to CIAC, “people across the world can access and check in the TUVdotCOM, and confirm that Clark airport was certified to this management system standard.”

TÜV Rheinland is a global leader in the certification of management systems with 490 offices in 61 countries.  Its headquarters is located in Cologne, Germany.

ISO 9000 refers to a set of quality management standards that includes three quality standards; ISO 9000:2005 (QMS Fundamentals and Vocabulary), ISO 9001:2008 (QMS requirements, certifiable standard), and ISO 9004:2009 (Guidelines for Performance Improvements).  All these are process standards. The purpose of the ISO is to facilitate international trade by providing a single set of standards that people everywhere would recognize and respect.

ISO 9001:2008 which CIAC obtained, specifies the auditable requirements and focuses on establishing, implementing, and maintaining quality management systems, including processes for continual improvement. Its main thrust is to enable a structured and managed approach toward customer satisfaction.
