CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – “We are looking for awardees not by accident but by choice.”

Thus said Rolly Rodriguez, chairman of The Outstanding Fernandino Awards (TOFA) 2010, during the launching of the annual awards at the Heroes Hall here yesterday.

Rodriguez said that “we are looking for truly deserving awardees.”

“TOFA awardees should have given back something to the community,” said Rodriguez.

He noted that it will be the first time that the TOFA would be institutionalized due to the enactment of Ordinance 001 (series of 2009).

Sponsored by Councilor Reden Halili, the ordinance provides “for mechanics, criteria, and qualifications of the awardees and for other purposes.”

It was brought up in the press conference that Businessman Levy Laus had been awarded last year and should not be awarded this year. It is not allowed for an individual to be twice given a TOFA award.

Mayor Oscar Rodriguez, in an interview at his office, said “the selection for TOFA would be organized with the ordinance.”

”There were no records on the past awardees of TOFA. Medyo sabog (it was quite a disaster),” added Rodriguez.

The two-term mayor said “TOFA inspires the Fernandino to achieve excellence.” He agreed with the TOFA selection chairman that the “awardees should not only be an achiever but have helped people in the community.”
