SAN MARCELINO, Zambales –– Police arrested awoman suspected of illegal logging at Sitio Palan, Purok 4, Barangay San Rafael of this town Tuesday.
Town police chief Major Janice Piga in her report to Zambales police director Col. Romano Velayo Cardiño identified the suspect as Claire Marfil y Laureano, 47, of Sitio Maoaw, Purok 6, Barangay San Pablo, Castillejos.
Piga said joint operatives of the San Macelino PNP, CIDG, Olongapo City environment and natural resources office and the Zambales PNP were conducting
Oplan Kalikasan when they caught suspect in possession of three chainsaws worth P20,000; 200 sacks of charcoal worth P50,000; and 448 board feet of sawn lumber worth P22,400.
The suspect now faces charges for violation of Section 77 of PD 705 as amended by E.O. 277 (illegal logging) and violation of RA 9175 or illegal use of chainsaw.
