CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – True to its theme, the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Pampanga Chapter has joined the celebration of the National Law Week from September 17 to 21 as it innovates, educates and informs the public.

IBP-Pampanga president Atty. Gener C. Endona said the chapter started the Law Week with a working visit at the Guagua Municipal Jail, said to be the most congested jail in Pampanga. The chapter donated several sacks of rice as well as boxes of shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, air freshener and several other hygiene kits to the inmates, he said.

Later in the afternoon, Endona said, the chapter launched their “IBP Pampanga FB Live” on Facebook where a panel of lawyers composed of Darwin Reyes, Alejandro Buan, Ralph Macalino, Socrates Padua and Berts Pamintuan – discussed on light terms that was understandable to the masses the projects of IBP Pampanga, among them: the role of lawyers, the National ID System, Cyber Libel and Bullying.

Endona said a second episode next month will be conducted for another round of discussions with netizens. IBP-Pampanga can be viewed at: fb.com/Ibp-Pampanga.

Absent notaries

IBP-Pampanga officers and members also visited several offices at the government regional center in Barangay Maimpis here as well as in the vicinity of the Land Transportation Office in Barangay Sto. Domingo, Angeles City to check on the rampant illegal notarization of public documents.

Endona said several insurance offices offering notarization of documents without indicating the lawyers commissioned to notarize documents have been warned that they are violating the notarial rules requiring every notary public to be commissioned with one specific area of jurisdiction.

Endona also emphasized the need for the personal presence of the affiants before the notarizing lawyer for the notarization of their documents in compliance with the rules. Appropriate criminal and administrative complaints will be initiated by the chapter should the illegal notarization persists in the area, he said.

Aetas

Endona said during the rest of the week, the chapter will also visit a day care center in Barangay Sapang Bato, Angeles City “to reach out to our Katutubong Aetas in the area” and distribute school supplies and conduct feeding activities. He added that the chapter promised to support the threemonth feeding program of the pupils at the day care center.

On Friday, IBP-Pampanga will conduct an orientation of 23 new lawyers who passed the 2017 Bar Exams for the Community Legal Aid Service (CLAS) at the Angeles City Sports Center, he said.

CLAS is a 120-hour per year of legal aid services required from new lawyers by the Supreme Court. There will also be an acquaintance party to welcome the new lawyers, Endona added.
