ORION, Bataan – A grandmother and her granddaughter died while two others were injured when a house being constructed here collapsed for still unknown reasons Wednesday afternoon.
Major Jeffrey S. Onde, Orion police chief, said an attending doctor at the St. Michael Hospital in Orion pronounced Maria Theresa Fernandez, 61, dead on arrival while her grandchild Lhencesca Fernandez, 7, was found dead when dug from the ruins.
Injured and rushed to the hospital were houseowner and husband of Maria Theresa, Leonardo Fernandez, 58, and helper Lito Bautista, 65.
Initial report showed that the two survivors were constructing the second floor of the house owned by the Fernandez couple in Barangay Sabatan when the flooring collapsed.
The damaged concrete flooring hit the old woman and her grandchild in the first floor that caused their death, police said.
Members of the Orion police, Bureau of Fire Protection, municipal disaster risk reduction management office, and the Metro Bataan Development Authority came to the rescue.
Onde said investigation was still going on.
