TALAVERA, Nueva Ecija – An suspected gunrunner was killed in a buy-bust operation that turned violent in Barangay Gulod here at about 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Suspect Bernie Mamaed, jobless resident of Barangay San Pascua, also of this town, reportedly fired a .9mm pistol at operatives police prompting them to retaliate.
Investigators recovered from the scene the suspect gun, several rounds of bullets, a single motorcycle, P5,000 buy-bust money and a mobile phone.
Senior Supt. Leon Victor Rosete, Nueva Ecija police director, said the suspect was involved in series of crimes, including a string of robberies.
Ealier, the suspect reportedly carted away P5,300 sales of an Andok’s chicken stall in the town.
The killing of Mamaed, according to Rosete, would result to the closure of “many crime incidents” in Nueva Ecija with backtracking of cases leading to the suspect as the culprit.
