BALANGA CITY — A suspected gunrunner was arrested while in the act of selling an unlicensed firearm during a gun buy-bust operation in Barangay Alangan in Limay, Bataan.
Col. Palmer Tria, Bataan police director, said operatives from the Limay municipal police station headed by Major Dennis Duran and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group led by Major Karlo Eden Mahinay nabbed the suspect after selling the gun to a police poseur-buyer.
The suspect yielded a .45 pistol with magazine loaded with three cartridges. He faces a complaint for violation of RA 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act).
Meanwhile, illegal cigarettes worth P256,000 were seized and two suspects arrested in a checkpoint of the Commission on Elections set by the police at the Sta. Rosa exit in Barangay Bagumbayan in Balanga City on Sunday.
Tria said that operatives of the city police station were conducting Comelec checkpoint when they flagged down two cars and found in the first vehicle two boxes containing 40 reams of assorted cigarettes worth P16,000.
The police team seized in another vehicle 12 boxes with 50 reams of cigarettes worth P240,000. Both suspects failed to show pertinent documents on the suspected contraband.
Tria said the two face charges for violation of RA 7394 (Consumer Act of the Philippines).
