GAPAN CITY – A 100-foot Christmas Tree, a 50,000-bulb tunnel of lights and a 45-meter tall Ferris wheel-turned giant lantern.

These were among the features of the city’s grand Christmas festival called “Masaya ang Pasko sa Gapan” that was formally inaugurated Saturday night, according to Mayor Emerson Pascual.

Pascual said the P50-million Ferris wheel that was built under the city government tourism program will be open free for all the local residents and with “minimal fees” for local tourists.

Pascual said over a million Christmas bulbs were lit up Saturday to treat the people to a colorful holiday and “let them feel the true spirit of Christmas.”

A nativity scene was also blessed that night, he said.

The tunnel lights span 700 meters, a few meters away from the national road to the public plaza making it an attraction to visitors and residents.

Masaya ang Pasko sa Gapan kicked off with the performance of popular singer-comedian Janno Gibbs.

Pascual assured visitors that the city, particularly with improved peace and order condition, is ready to welcome tourists.

“Masasabi ko na ang Gapan City is the most peaceful city in Nueva Ecija. Dito ay walang pusher, wala kang mabibiling shabu,” Pascual said, assuring that anyone can visit here without fear of being harmed.
