CABANATUAN CITY – Marion was 14 years old when his parents parted ways.

He has no parents to lean on when he was faced with challenges.

Marion had to turn to people of his age, joined in a barkada which, unfortunately made him get farce happiness through the use of illegal drugs.

“Nag-rebelde po ako” said Marion during a brief program that recognized people who continuously help fight illegal drugs here. He is one of the young patients who underwent rehabilitation at the Nueva Ecija Rehabilitation, Training and Research Center Foundation, Inc.

Marion said that as a young boy, he got to work decently but because of the problems brought by the separation of his parents, all his effort went to naught. “Lahat ng pinaghihirapan ko po napunta sa droga,” he said.

But Dr. Vision de Guzman, president of the rehab center, said the foundation goes beyond rehabilitation and training as it actively campaigns against proliferation of illegal drugs.

He said the foundation and Gov. Aurelio Umali continuously led anti-drug campaigns dubbed as “Nueva Ecija Laban sa Droga”.

Umali said the campaign earned the support and participation of virtually all sectors including non-government agencies and institutions.

“We launched painting contests among students as a way of inculcating to their minds the importance of fighting illegal drugs,” De Guzman said.

Ret. Gen. Esmenino Delo, rehab center’s vice president, noted that the supply of illegal drugs in Nueva Ecija was apparently reduced with the relentless drive both by law enforcement agencies and private sector.

Marion called on government officials to continue fighting the drug menace. “Ngayon, eto ako, magaling na,” he said. “Hinihiling ko po sa mga opisyal ng gobyerno na huwag tigilan ang paglaban sa salot na droga,” he said.
