MALOLOS CITY—Bulacan Gov. Wilhelmino Alvarado condemned the recent killing of a businessman in Calumpit town saying “it’s an insult to the government.”
He also ordered the Bulacan provincial police office to conduct a thorough investigation on the killing as the family of the victim called for justice.
For their part, employees of the provincial Capitol especially department heads and some suppliers expressed concern for their safety as well.
In his weekly radio program aired over Radyo Bulacan, Alvarado said that such killing has no place in a civil society.
“It is an insult to the government, to the police and to all of us,” the governor said referring to the shooting and killing of Arvin Dimaculangan, a 36-year-old businessman.
He said that such killing is not welcome in Bulacan and “they cannot just do that with impunity.”
Alvarado also ordered Senior Supt. Joel Orduna, the acting provincial police director, conduct a thorough investigation on the killing of Dimaculangan.
As this developed, friends of Dimaculangan family said the widow is demanding justice, but declined to be interviewed by local journalists.
As the Dimaculangan is said to be one of the big time suppliers of the provincial government, his killing has sent fears to some department heads of the provincial Capitol, and to some suppliers and contractors.
Earlier reports said that Dimaculangan was killed by motorcycle-riding men while on board his motorcycle along the MacArthur Highway in Barangay Pio Cruzcosa in Calumpit town.
Investigators said that the victim suffered two gunshot wounds on the back of the head after he was shot while driving his motorcycle.
Sources at the provincial Capitol who asked for anonymity said that Dimaculangan was killed after encashing a check worth P2.9 million at the Land Bank of the Philippines branch in Barangay Sumapang in Malolos City.
They said that after Dimaculangan’s check was released, the victim went to the bank to encash the check and drove towards Calumpit.
Capitol employees expressed concern on why the victim drove to Calumpit when his residence is located at Barangay Sumapang Matanda here.
They also wondered why the victim drove with P2.9 million in cash when he could have deposited it in the bank.
