ANGELES CITY – Sen. Richard “Dick” Gordon on Wednesday vowed to apply “effective leadership” in governance, focusing on education once elected President.
Gordon elicited applause from students at the Holy Angel University (HAU) when he promised to give public school teachers a monthly salary of P40,000 each.
“We can never rebound if we do not put emphasis on education,” said Gordon, who was with his vice presidential runningmate, Bayani Fernando, in a campaign sortie highlighted by a forum with HAU students and officials.
Gordon said “effective leadership” means the leaders should “simply apply the law.” He added that corruption in government had “further made us poor.”
“When the leaders are afraid of their people, that is the time we will fail,” said Gordon.
Fernando, for his part, said the “downfall in the productivity” caused the country to become poorer.
He added that the government should help the people with the materials and equipment they need to improve productivity.
HAU President Arlyn Villanueva welcomed Gordon and Fernando of the Bagumbayan party at the campus of the biggest school in Central Luzon.
In her speech, Villanueva said the electorate should choose their leaders well as this will decide the future of the country.
