THE CITY Government of San Fernando, through its City Tourism OffiCe, together with the Giant Lantern Festival Foundation, Inc., and Robinsons Land Corporation, held the first-ever Giant Lantern Run, in line with the 110th anniversary of the giant lantern-making in the city, on December 16.
A drive towards health and wellness and a promotion of San Fernando’s local lantern industry, this 5K-distance run was participated by hundreds of Fernandino student-athletes and CSF-LGU and attached agencies personnel, lighting up Robinsons Starmills Pampanga using their neon-colored outfits and glow sticks.
According to Jayson Caguiat, GL Run Chairperson, this activity will also serve as a primer for an international run to be launched in 2019, which targets to cater run enthusiasts all over the country and in some parts of the globe.
In his opening message, Mayor Edwin “EdSa” Santiago remarked that this activity is a manifestation of Fernandinos’ love for culture and health.
“Nagpapasalamat ako sa lahat ng nagpagod upang maidaos itong kauna-unahang Giant Lantern Run because the aim of this run is to show to people that Fernandinos give love to our culture and to the importance of health,” said Santiago.
Santiago added that members of the youth, being the core of the nation, the city will continuously create programs for them.
“Sino pa ba ang magpapatuloy sa ating nasimulan? Kayong mga kabataan. Kaya ngayon pa lamang, we do everything for your growth and development. Katulad nitong Giant Lantern Run, it will teach you to strive for success and to consider health as your greatest wealth,” Santiago added.
Also gracing the event were GLF Executive Committee Chairperson Engr. Alex Patio, City Accountant Ma. Gisel Rivera, Robinsons Land Corporation Regional Operations Manager Jodee Paulette Arroyo, OIC-Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Shirley Zipagan, and OICChief of the School Governance and Operations Division Felino Sawal.
