Preparing for the unexpected. For Pampanga breadwinners, it’s not just about what you save and earn, it’s about what you protect for your loved ones.

Many young Filipinos are becoming breadwinners. Their lifetime responsibilities go far beyond paying their own bills, which is why it’s vital to protect the things they truly work hard for.

According to a recent BSP’s 2025 Consumer Finance and Inclusion Survey (CFIS), while 68% of adults are knowledgeable about insurance, few have secured voluntary protection: 10% for life insurance and less than 10% for non-life.

Many young adults still see insurance as something to think about later in life. It usually comes after marriage, home ownership, and/or having children—things that take the top spots in the long list of their priorities. But when reality bites, it bites hard; and revisiting the list might prove to be too late.

A quiet reminder to have a Plan B

Lady, a BDO Life Financial Advisor, shared a story that still stays with her. She once met a young businessman in his 30s who believed he did not need life insurance. Everything seemed to be falling into place: his business was doing well, and his wedding preparations were in full swing.

During his visit to a BDO branch, however, Lady was able to convince him to consider having a Plan B not just for himself, but for the business he built and the new chapter in life he was about to embark on. Unfortunately, he had a heart attack weeks before his wedding; and he passed away.

The insurance he had just secured helped support his fiancée and gave his family a way to settle obligations. When his business eventually closed, his employees were still able to receive separation pay.

For Lady, moments like this are a reminder: life insurance is not simply about preparing for loss, but about protecting our loved ones and taking care of the responsibilities we leave behind.

“We know exactly when we’re born,” she said, “but we can never predict how long we will live.”

Stories like this are quietly reshaping how young breadwinners, including those in Pampanga, view financial protection. Instead of seeing insurance as a future expense, more are beginning to treat it as part of everyday financial preparedness, alongside saving, investing, and building emergency funds.

Protecting what matters today

As financial awareness grows, more Kapampangans are exploring protection plans for medical expenses, travel, homes, vehicles, and small businesses. Through BDO Insure, they can access a range of non-life insurance solutions designed to help safeguard their assets from risks such as damage, theft, or natural disasters—completing their overall protection plan.

And for those who are starting to build their Plan B, BDO offers free life insurance for new and existing clients who open and maintain a qualified deposit account until July 31. Deposits of at least P500,000 come with complimentary life insurance coverage worth P1 million, while deposits of P1 million or more entitle them to P3 million worth of free coverage. Protection starts from account opening and can last up to one year when they maintain the required average monthly balance.

You can take the simple step today to secure what you have built. Visit the BDO branch nearest you to know more about BDO Life and BDO Insure protection plans, or browse the BDO website for more information and to get a quote online.

Mark your calendars for the BDO Fiesta on August 1 at SM City Pampanga.
