JAEN, Nueva Ecija — At least 2,445 families in 14 villages here have been affected by floods brought by a series of weather systems that recently hit Luzon, a social welfare official said Monday.
Paperlyn Pablo, head of the municipal social welfare and development office, said they have been distributing relief packages both from the Department of Social Welfare and Development and the local government to people affected by five typhoons, from “Luis” to “Pilandok” that aggravated the southwest monsoon.
“Ang habagat po ang nagpabaha sa ating mga barangay,” she said.
The affected villages include Malabon-Kaingin, Sta. Rita, Lambakin, Pakul, Hilera, Ulanin-Pitak, Calabasa, San Vicente, Putlod, Sto. Tomas South, Pinanggaan, Sapang, Don Mariano, and Dampulan, she sadded.
Mayor Atty. Sylvester Austria said the town’s five percent calamity fund is also being used to provide assistance to affected residents.
On Monday, Austria, along with head of concerned agencies including the rural health unit and Department of Health visited inundated and affected areas to extend help packages as well aa doxycycline.
“Hindi lamang po tayo nanghihingi, (from DSWD) may counterpart po ang munisipyo ng Jaen,” Pablo reported.
In agriculture, the said weather systems have affected 475 farmers in 936 hectares of rice lands a 19 barangays, said municipal disaster risk reduction and management office chief Marzan Mateo quoting reports from the local agriculture office.
This is for a total of P8,985,600 damages in agriculture, he said.
Meanwhile, the road in the boundary of Barangay Calabasa here and Barangay Lawang Kupang of San Antonio town was not passable to light vehicles due to flood as of Monday afternoon, according to Austria.
