SAN ANTONIO, Nueva Ecija – A 34-year-old single woman found herself in trouble for allegedly representing herself as a registered nurse for a caregiving work to a Covid-19 survivor in Barangay San Francisco here Saturday.

Municipal police chief Major Erick Corpuz  identified the suspect as Claudia Castro, resident of Barangay Bungo, Gapan City.  She was arrested based on a complaint from one Marichor Clemente.

Clemente reportedly hired Castro for P8,000 a day to look after her 51-year-old husband who is recovering from Covid-19.

Police could not readily ascertain the date when Castro started the job.

“The suspect insisted that she is a registered nurse  when asked by the complainant (before the hiring),” an investigator said.

The family’s Dr. Erwin Roque who is based in Angeles City, Pampanga however got suspicious when Castro allegedly could not understand most of the medical terms he was giving her as instruction, investigation showed.

This reportedly led Roque to check her name from registered nurses and found that Castro was not in the list.

Investigators later found Castro did not finish a nursing course.

Police had to wear personal protective equipment when they effected the arrest right at the patient’s residence.

The suspect is charged with estafa under Paragraph 2a, Article 315 of the Revised Penal Code.
