GAPAN CITY – The city government has declared readiness to sustain food and cash assistance to residents
with the extended enhanced community quarantine.

In a Facebook post, local officials led by Mayor Emerson Pascual showed off cash which will be delivered door-to-door at P1,000 and a 50-kilo sack of rice per household starting Tuesday, April 28.

The ECQ was extended for another 15 days by President Duterte last week in high-risk areas including Central Luzon.

“Yun pong bigas, andiyan na kumpleto. Sigurado po namin bawat bahay, bawat pintuan ay malalagyan ng bigas,” Pascual said, saying there will be no prior listing of beneficiaries but every cent will be property accounted for. The city has some 36,000 households.

“Yun po ang purpose kung bakit narito ang mga pera na ito. Ibig sabihin nakahanda kami,” he said, showing bundles of cash on a table.

The cash will be distributed in envelopes inscribed “COVID ka lang, batang Gapan kami” in an effort to inspire people that they can withstand the crisis.

He promised to continue the supply of viand to his constituents too. Pascual earned accolades in the internet for giving them a choice of dishes for their meals.

In Cabanatuan City, Mayor Myca Elizabeth Vergara told her father, Vice Mayor Julius Cesar Vergara, in a televised conversation that the city government is preparing for more rounds of relief operations.

The city government has so far delivered in three waves 30 kg of rice (10kg per wave) and a whole dressed chicken.

These were augmented with 10 kg of rice from 3rdDistrict Rep. Rosanna Vergara’s personally-funded Kalinga Para sa Distrito. The program covers this city, Palayan City and the towns of Bongabon, Gabaldon, Laur, Gen. Natividad and Santa Rosa.

The provincial government on the other hand, distributes rice in varied volume from the Nueva Ecija food council. Umali said the rice was milled frompalay bought from local farmers.
