MABALACAT, Pamp. – Former top Councilor Cherry Manalo has vowed to prioritize the welfare of women once given a change to serve her constituents again.

In a statement, Manalo said she will ensure “economic empowerment of women.”

“Women should not just be fixtures at home. They should be part of pushing for progress in our community,” said Manalo, a candidate for councilor here.

Manalo of Barangay San Joaquin said she will also “fight for the rights of women.”

“There should be equal treatment between men and women, especially in the halls of powers,” she added.

An ally of Pampanga gubernatorial candidate Lilia “Baby” Pineda, Manalo said she wants to strengthen the partnership of schools, non-governmental organizations, Local Government Units (LGUs) and national government in pushing for the welfare of women.

“The partnership is necessary to push for my advocacy focusing on women,” she added.

A daughter of businessman Fermin Manalo, the councilor aspirant fell some 200 votes short of winning one of the two provincial board member seats in 2007 elections.
