ANGELES CITY- A campaigner of presidential adviser on external affairs and former Northrail Corp. president Edgardo Pamintuan, who is now running for mayor of this city, was shot dead by still unidentified suspects at 11 a.m. in Barangay Pulung Maragul here.

Pulung Maragul barangay chairman Jojo Dimapilis identified the victim as his barangay executive officer Jessei Barrameda .

Reached by phone, Pamintuan said Dimapilis and his supporters were at the Office of the Ombudsman in  Quezon City to file administrative cases against this city’s Mayor Francisco Nepomuceno when Barrameda was shot dead here.

“What I know is that Dimapilis was also expecting a television program to come out with a report anytime on the same case against Nepomuceno,” he added.

He said, however, that “I just hope there is nothing political in the killing. Bloodshed is so unnecessary in politics.” Nepomuceno is seeking reelection under the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) party.

Pamintuan, who had also been chairman of the Subic-Clark Alliance Development Council until his resignation recently, said the victim was originally from the Visayas but had become a voter of Angeles. “He had been my active campaigner especially among residents of Angeles who are originally from the Visayas,” he noted.

Dimapilis cited reports saying that Barrameda was walking at the corner of Nepomuceno and Cruz avenues when  one of two suspects on board a black motorcycle shot him in the head. “He was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital,” he noted. The suspects fled on the motorcycle which did not have plate number.

Pamintuan said that earlier, Nepomuceno appointed former city councilor Sonny Lao as chairman of Barangay Pulung Maragul  and eight others as replacement of Dimapilis and all his barangay councilors amid allegations of irregularies in the barangay council.

Dimapilis himself took over from barangay chair Edilberto Cayanan who was also gunned down last year.

But both the Court of Appeals and the Department of Interior and Local Government issued a status quo orders that was supposed to prevent Nepomuceno to enforce his order.  The orders were ignored by Nepomuceno,” he said.

No official from city hall could be reached for comment.
