CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has assured the public of an adequate supply of cement in Pampanga avoiding a repeat of the cement shortage last December.
Disclosing this at the DTI Kapihan forum yesterday, DTI-Pampanga officer-in-charge Leonila Baluyut said the scheduled repair and maintenance of the major cement factories in Central and North Luzon had affected the supply of cement late last year.
But Baluyut stressed that “now there is a steady supply of it in the province.” She added that they had instituted steps to prevent the hoarding and illegal price increase of the construction material.
“Now that the supply is stable we can impose regulation on its price,” said Baluyut, disclosing that the price of cement should not be more than P205 pesos per bag.
Baluyut said they had also worked closely with the Department of Agriculture (DA) to monitor the prices of sugar which increased by over 20 percent per kilo over the past few months. She added that the “DA and not DTI is directly involved in the monitoring of the price of sugar.”
Baluyut said they had been informed by the sugar industry that the prices of sugar would still be unstable in the following months. She added that the government will import some 150 metric tons of sugar to stop the rising price of sugar.
“We assure the public that we will do our best to enforce the laws of the DTI and the government,” said Baluyut. She was joined by DTI-Pampanga officials Leonor Paninbatan and Erlinda Pineda in the forum attented by mediamen.
