CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – An official of a construction corporation here said the job fairs spearheaded by the Department of Public and Works and Highways (DPWH) “will make it easier for both the employers and job seekers meet their respective needs.”
“My firm is set to get 300 workers today,” said Rodigor Laxamana, president and general manager of Leadway Construction and Development Corp. (LCDC).
He also lauded President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and the Department of Public and Works and Highways (DPWH) “for providing thousands of jobs in Central Luzon.”
“The simultaneous DPWH-led job fairs in the regional office here will help boost the economy amid the global economic crisis,” he added.
Laxamana graced the event initiated by DPWH Regional Director Alfredo Tolentino and his assistant, Marcelina Ocampo.
Tolentino said the job fairs serve as “one-stop shop for applicants and firms.”
“If he could not get accepted in one company, he will just have to go to other tables within this area and save time and money in looking for a job,” he said.
Some 25 firms joined the job fairs.
The job fair in Pampanga was held in his office, while 17 other district offices of the DPWH also held simultaneous job fairs. More than 1,000 applicants trooped to the DPWH regional office here.
Most of the companies who joined the job fair are in need of machine operators, drivers, carpenters, plumbers, electricians, masons, laborers, foremen, engineers, surveyors and clerks.
Tolentino said the job fairs is in addition to the Comprehensive Livelihood and Employment Emergency (CLEEP) program which is aimed at lessening the effects of the global crisis in the country.
DPWH District Official Enrico Guillas also graced the jobs fair.
