CABANATUAN CITY (PIA) — Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) completed a road reconstruction project in Peñaranda, Nueva Ecija.
It entailed reblocking 1.3 kilometers of road between barangays Las Piñas and Sinasajan.
DPWH Nueva Ecija 2nd District Engineer Elpidio Trinidad said the P19.6-million project involves the upgrading of an access road leading to Minalungao National Park in General Tinio.
“Poor road conditions not only restrict travel but also result in additional costs for local businesses. Although the park is temporarily closed to the public, we anticipate a surge in visitors upon its reopening,” he emphasized.
Trinidad added that improved roads are expected to ease access for tourists and contribute to an increase in visitor numbers that ultimately benefit local businesses in the tourism sector.
For his part, Assistant District Engineer Robert Jay Panaligan said the improved road would enhance accessibility in the two barangays.
He highlighted the critical role that local community roads play in rural and suburban areas.
“Their significance extends well beyond facilitating transportation; these local community roads are fundamental for fostering connectivity among communities, spurring economic growth, and enhancing the overall comfort and quality of life,” he pressed.
The project was implemented as part of the DPWH Tourism Road Infrastructure Program which is a convergence initiative with the Department of Tourism funded under the 2023 national budget. (CLJD-PIA 3)
