TALAVERA, Nueva Ecija (PIA) — Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) built a new hanging bridge at barangay Sta. Veronica in Guimba, Nueva Ecija.
The new infrastructure now allows residents to safely cross the Benituan River.
According to locals, their daily transportation has become much more convenient with the replacement of the old hanging bridge that had been their primary crossing for nearly four decades.
They recalled an incident in which the worn-out suspension bridge, which was constructed through the efforts of the municipal government, snapped while some residents were crossing.
These resulted in injuries, bruises, and instilled fear that discouraged residents from using the pathway.
In a statement, DPWH Nueva Ecija 1st OIC-District Engineer Osias Santos said the bridge has a length of 40 meters and width of 1.2 meters.
The agency earmarked P6.8 million for the project under the 2023 General Appropriations Act. (CLJD-PIA 3)
