CITY OF SAN FERNANDO –Third District Rep. Aurelio “Dong” Gonzales announced on Monday that P14 million is ready for at least 27,000 scholars in 2012.

Gonzales disclosed that at least 6,000 of his total scholars under the “Iskolar ni Dong” program are college students in different schools in Pampanga and Metro Manila. He added that more than 1,000 students are full scholars at the Don Honorio Ventura Technical State University (DHVTSU).

“I don’t mind getting some from my pocket if only to send more students to schools, especially to college,” said Gonzales. He added that he launched his scholarship program five years ago.

Gonzales said he was happy to hear that some of his scholars graduated cum laude in 2011 and last March. Some of them are from AMA University in the City of San Fernando and the University of the Philippines (UP) in Diliman.

“Education is the only way for a person or family to get out of poverty,” he added.

Gonzales said “high or low gardes” are not factors in getting qualified applicants for his scholarship program.
“As long as they are willing to study and have passing grades,” he added.

Gonzales on Monday welcomed at least 1,000 college scholars at his congressional office in Sindalan here. He was joined by his wife, Elizabeth.
