TARLAC CITY (PIA) — The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) awarded P540,000 worth of livelihood grants to Tarlac Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).
A total of six beneficiaries received P10,000 each under the Livelihood Program for OFW Reintegration while 16 beneficiaries got P30,000 each under the Agarang Kalinga at Saklolo para sa mga OFW na Nangangailangan Fund.
During the opening of the first ever OFW Bagong Pilipinas Serbisyo Caravan which was held in Tarlac, DMW Undersecretary for Policy and International Cooperation Patricia Yvonne Caunan introduced the newly formed agency and its services.
“The Department of Migrant Workers is usually mistaken for the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration but we would like to share with you that this is the home of OFWs and their families and it may be the youngest yet it is ready to provide you services wherever you are,” Caunan said.
Likewise, she underscored the financial literacy efforts of the agency in ensuring that OFWs are empowered in handling their hard-earned compensation.
“We have partnerships with different government agencies and private companies to promote financial literacy to educate not only our OFWs but most importantly their families who are receiving their remittances from abroad,” she highlighted.
One of the jobseekers, Jermaine Ibarra from Barangay Aguso, Tarlac City recognized the accessibility of government services during the OFW Bagong Pilipinas Serbisyo Caravan.
“With this, we have less expenses for the same services that we need. The Department of Migrant Workers is really reliable in providing us a list of legitimate jobs that we can apply for overseas,” Ibarra said.
DMW was created by virtue of Republic Act No. 11641 which was signed into law on December 30, 2021 and took effect on February 3, 2022. (CLJD/GLSB, PIA Region 3-Tarlac)
