BALANGA City – The Diocese of Balanga in Bataan on Sunday issued a prayer asking for rains with the threat of El Nino and less rainfall.

Bishop Ruperto Santos, however, asks only for enough rains and not rains that will cause floods and destruction to life and property. “We implore from your goodness our Almighty God, our Father, to bring rains that will be enough only for our needs,” the prayer said.

The Bataan prelate said the prayer is not only good for Bataan but for other areas that are feeling the effects of the dry spell.

Santos is chair of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines Episcopal Commission for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People (CBCP-ECMI).

Bataan has experienced lesser rains in the past even during the onslaught of Ttyphoon Lando that damaged the neighboring provinces of Pampanga, Zambales and Bulacan.

There are still no cracks on lands to evidence the dry spell in Bataan but more farmers no longer rely on rivers for their irrigation but more on expensive water pumps for the second cropping season beginning the middle of November to March next year.

“Yes, God Almighty, our good Father, we need enough rains that you can only do something for the good of our life, our livelihood and our future and most of all, for the glory of your Blessed Name,” concludes the prayer.
