BALANGA CITY – The Diocese of Balanga on Tuesday appealed for donations to families in Bataan hardly hit by flood caused by the monsoon rains and Maring.
“Panahon ng unos kaya nakikiusap kami sa may mabubuting kalooban na maging bukas ang puso sa pagtulong. Wala pong maliit na ibibigay basta galing sa puso,” 24-year old Arvin Mendoza said.
He said that the gathering of goods for relief assistance was an initiative of Bishop Ruperto Santos and priests of parishes in 11 towns and one city in the province. He said that the youth helping in the preparation of the relief goods came from various parishes.
Mendoza said that the diocese has just received canned goods, noodles, bottled water and rice from Petron, Rotary Club and private individuals.
He said that all parishes are also receiving donations that will all be turned over to the diocese for preparation and disposition.
“We will always continue to pray,” Bishop Ruperto Santos said.
He has just issued a special prayer for good weather. “God keep us safe, spare us from harm and give us a good pleasant weather,” read the prayer in part.
Latest report from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office showed that 56,272 families comprising 256,790 persons were affected by heavy flooding in 143 barangays.
Gov. Albert Garcia on Tuesday approved a resolution passed by the sangguinang panlalawigan placing Bataan under a state of calamity.
