JAEN, Nueva Ecija (PIA) — The Department of Education (DepEd) has opened Nueva Ecija’s first Learning Continuity Space (LCS) at San Jose Elementary School in Jaen, helping address classroom shortages and ensure uninterrupted learning.
This newly opened facility is the first completed and placed into operation among the nine LCS awarded to the Schools Division Office (SDO) of Nueva Ecija.
According to DepEd, the project is a flagship infrastructure intervention that provides safe, resilient, and learner-centered classrooms while permanent school buildings are being developed.
Before the facility was turned over for learner use, Nueva Ecija Schools Division Superintendent Ronaldo Pozon conducted an inspection to ensure that it met DepEd’s engineering, safety, and quality standards.
He was joined by Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Michelle Mejica, Schools Governance and Operations Division Chief Rowena Castillo, and Division Engineer Ener Fuertes.
The team checked the building’s structural integrity, workmanship, compliance with approved specifications, and overall readiness for use by learners.
DepEd said the contractor provided additional features at no extra cost to the government, including ceramic floor and wall tiles in the comfort room, steel doors, and two rainwater catchers.
On the significance of the project, Pozon underscored the role of quality infrastructure in supporting education reforms and improving the learning environment for pupils.
“The Learning Continuity Space Project is a concrete manifestation of the education reform agenda of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Secretary Sonny Angara. Beyond addressing classroom shortages, this project demonstrates how collaboration between government and responsible private partners can provide better, safer, and more sustainable learning environments for our learners,” he said.
Aside from San Jose Elementary School, SDO Nueva Ecija was granted LCS for Jose Rico Cruz Elementary School in Cabiao with two units; Salazar Integrated School in Carranglan with two units; and one unit each for E. Abalos Primary School in Cuyapo, Sibug Elementary School in General Tinio, Pamacpacan Elementary School in Jaen, Pinagbayanan Elementary School in Laur, and Kalayaan Elementary School in Pantabangan.
DepEd also reported that the LCS at Lennec Elementary School in Guimba, funded under a separate allocation, has been completed and is ready for occupancy.
