The DepEd regional office said the new deadline “seeks to ensure that the projected enrollment for public senior high school students will be realized.” The initial deadline was last June 3.
“As of the first enrollment deadline last June 3, only 57,637 out of the 100,333 or only 57.6 percent of projected Grade 11 enrollees registered,” said DepEd acting regional director Malcolm Garma.
Garma encouraged the students and their parents to enroll now and not wait for the new deadline “so as to give school heads of public senior high schools ample time to prepare and adjust their respective program offerings.”
Garma said his office has hired 3,888 senior high school teachers, and has purchased equipment for the “tech-voc-livelihood track worth P418 million.”
He said DepEd is closely monitoring the construction of more classrooms by the Department of Public Works and Highways.
He noted that as of last June 6, about 54 percent or 1,659 out of the target 3,103 classrooms needed for senior high school have already been finished in time for the opening of classes this year in Central Luzon. The rest are expected to be finished by August.
