THE DELEGATION of the City Government of San Fernando composed of Councilor BJ Lagman, Department of the Interior and Local Government City Director Engr. Algy Canlas, City Environment and Natural Resources Office Senior Environmental Management Specialist Regina Rodriguez, Zero Waste Youth Pilipinas President Jann Audry Manalese, Fernandino Yes-O Network President Merviel Joyce Rosario and Carmelisa Tolentino of the Sangguniang Panlungsod join the celebration of Zero Waste Month in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental on invitation of the Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives (GAIA) and the Mother Earth Foundation (MEF) from January 16 to 19, 2018.
During the Zero Waste Youth Convergence held June 16, Councilor Lagman presented the environmental initiatives of the City of San Fernando and how it has overcome challenges in the full implementation of the Plastic- Free Ordinance.
Meanwhile, youth representatives Manalese and Rosario discussed the vital role of the Fernandino youth in the journey towards becoming a Zero Waste City.
The delegation also made a courtesy call at the offices of Dumaguete City Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo and Vice Mayor Franklin Esmena prior to the event.
They will also attend Zero Waste Cities Meeting from January 17-18 wherein local officials and zero waste practitioners will be gathered to discuss how the zero waste approach can be adopted as a low-cost and people- oriented solution to local solid waste management problems.
To cap off the celebration, a trip to Apo Island will be held on January 19.
