A global simultaneous breastfeeding event, “The Big Latch On”, was once again joined by the Local Government of San Fernando, for the fourth time, through the initiative of City Health Office and Fernandina breastfeeding advocate, City Tourism Officer Ching Pangilinan.

One of the three venues of the big latch on event in the city on August 3, 2018 was in Vista Mall in San Agustin, which flocked by hundreds of Fernandina moms who completely supported the city’s campaign on breastfeeding.

At exactly 10:30 am, these mothers started performing breastfeeding latch, with assistance from the health office and medical staff from Jose B. Lingad Memorial Regional Hospital (JBLMRH).

Also part of the event was a breastfeeding lecture from Dr. Rowena Tapang-Vergara of the JBLRMH which spun around the proper and alternative ways of breastfeeding and the do’s and don’ts when doing the activity.

Meanwhile, Pangilinan expressed that the participation of the city in this event is “to spread and normalize breastfeeding among Fernandina moms since it benefits both the mother and her child in the health aspect.”

Dr. Emerito Mercado, CSF’s Rural Health Physician II, furthermore shared his gratitude, on behalf of the whole CHO team, to the participants of the event, citing that this is the best way for mothers to start raising their children in a healthy manner.

In his speech, Mayor Edwin “EdSa” Santiago stated that CSF also acts like a mother, doing efforts for the betterment of its young community.

“Tayong mga magulang, bakit tayo nagtatrabaho’t nakikipagsapalaran? Para matustusan natin ang pangangailangan ng ating mga anak. Itong breastfeeding event na ating sinasalihan, paraan naman ito ng syudad upang matustusan natin ang kanila ring pangangailangan sa kalusugan,” expressed Santiago.

He also imparted to parents that “CSF, from the time a child is born until the time he enters into a school, he is guided by the values that CSF teaches, making it one of the recognized child-friendly cities by the national government.”

Meanwhile, “The Big Latch On” was also held in SM City San Fernando Downtown and will also be staged at Robinsons Starmills Pampanga on August 4, 2018.
