QUEZON, Nueva Ecija – Gunmen are arrested right away this time. Thanks to collaborative efforts of police and local legislators.

Two motorcycle-riding men opened fire at Ricky Espino, 48, a painter and resident of Barangay Pag-asa, Talavera and Carlito de Guzman, 35, of Barangay Ilog-Baliwag here at about 10:30 am Monday.

Riding a black Euro motorcycle with plate no. 4542, the suspects Antonio Quilon Jr., 32, a security guard of Caloocan City and his brother Mario, 36, of Pulilan, Bulacan, fled immediately.

Town police chief, Senior Insp. Samuel Avila, activated the dragnet forces thus blocking all exit-entry points.

After about half an hour, Avila together with Vice Mayor Lourdes Lahom who reportedly shared efforts in tracing down the suspects, had the suspects arrested in Sitio Tabon Barangay San Miguel of this municipality.

Recovered from them were one .357 mm caliber Smith and Wesson pistol, one .9mm revolver and several rounds of bullets.

Espino succumbed to head injuries while de Guzman is currently undergoing medical treatment in a local hospital.

Avila said the effort of Lahom, along with early reporting of the crime, gave police an edge to have the crime solved shortly.
