ANGELES CITY – The city police director has lamented the failure of witnesses to help them solve the brutal gunslaying of former Malabanias Barangay Captain Thelmo Lalic at a memorial park here last April 18.

Senior Supt. Pierre Bucsit yesterday said they had “identified witnesses” who could help them identify the two suspects in the killing

of Lalic, 62, at the La Pieta Memorial Park in Barangay Sto. Domingo.

“We need the support of the citizenry in solving crimes such as the murder of Lalic.  Some of the witnesses do not care at all,” said Bucsit.

The police director added that “it seems only Lalic and the killers were at La Pieta when the incident occurred.” He disclosed that La Pieta “is a jogging area and so many people were there in the morning and at the time Lalic was shot to death.”  Police investigators said Lalic was gunned down at about 5:40 a.m.

Bucsit said the two gunmen missed their target on their first salvo using .45 caliber pistols. He added that Lalic was able to run but the suspects caught up with him and finished him off.

Police were able to recover at least 14 shells of .45 pistol in the area. They said at least two bullets hit the head of Lalic.

Lalic was the 7th murder victim involving prominent personalities since December last year. He lost his re-election bid in 2007.

A political ally of former mayor and now First District Rep. Carmelo “Tarzan” Lazatin, Lalic was the Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) president during the term of former Mayor Tony Abad Santos.
