The Department of Trade and Industry Region 3 (DTI-3) reminds the public to have their motor vehicles, appliances, equipment, and other devices repaired only by DTI-accredited Service and Repair Enterprises (SREs) to ensure quality workmanship and consumer protection.

The regulation and accreditation of service and repair shops are mandated under Presidential Decree No. 1572, which empowers DTI to regulate and control the operation of service and repair enterprises and the technical personnel employed therein.

The decree was established to ensure the protection of consumers and the delivery of reliable and competent repair services. Under Section 2 of the decree, no service and repair enterprise, including the technical personnel employed therein and specialty contractors engaged in repair services, may operate without first securing accreditation from DTI.

Moreover, technical personnel engaged in repair services are required to be TESDA-accredited, ensuring that individuals who repair appliances and equipment possess the necessary technical competencies and skills, thereby giving the public confidence that their devices are handled by qualified professionals.

DTI-3 Regional Director Edna D. Dizon emphasized the importance of choosing accredited repair shops to safeguard consumers from poor quality repairs and unnecessary expenses.

“Consumers are strongly encouraged to have their appliances and equipment repaired only by DTI-accredited Service and Repair Enterprises. Accreditation ensures that these establishments meet government standards for technical capability, facilities, and service quality,” the Director said.

The regulation covers service and repair enterprises engaged in various fields, including motor vehicles and heavy equipment, engine and engineering works and machine shops, electronics and electrical devices, air-conditioning and refrigeration systems, and office and data processing equipment. In Region 3 alone, there are currently 1,345 accredited SREs.

Under the DTI accreditation program, service and repair enterprises are also required to provide a 90-day warranty for the repair services they perform, including the parts replaced during the repair. This warranty gives consumers assurance that they may return to the service provider should issues arise within the warranty period.

DTI also advises consumers to request a service invoice or job order indicating the nature of the repair, the parts replaced, and the corresponding charges. These documents serve as proof of transaction and may be used in case of warranty claims or consumer complaints.

As part of its consumer protection mandate, DTI continues to promote the accreditation of service and repair enterprises and conducts monitoring activities to ensure that establishments comply with the standards set by the government.

DTI-3 encourages the public to look for accredited service providers in their area and to report repair shops operating without proper authorization.

For inquiries or to verify accredited Service and Repair Enterprises, consumers may contact the nearest DTI Regional or Provincial Office.
